McKinney and Ellen Oh (though I didn’t personally see the latter’s) tweeted that certain aspects of the novel constituted racism. User Paige Cee announced that a trusted source had informed her of questionable behaviour on Zhao’s part, including racism, plagiarism, and taking screenshots of negative reviews (presumably with the intention of combating those reviews). This whole affair has been conducted primarily over Twitter. In a tweet last night she announced that she would be postponing it indefinitely, due to concerns over her discussion of slavery in light of the US’s history with it. This was initially a personal account of my perspective I’ve now revised it to make it, hopefully, nothing but a purely factual account.įirst, if you’ve missed it: Zhao’s debut was slated for publication on 4 June 2019 by Delacorte Press. This is going to be fairly quick, but since I reviewed Blood Heir I thought I should discuss some of what’s happening with this book.
